Radu Marinescu, proposed by the PSD for the position of Minister of Justice, stated on Tuesday, during hearings before the Parliament’s specialized committees, that “crime is increasing, and therefore the number of victims is also growing.” The statement was made in the context of presenting his priorities for the term in office. He received a favorable endorsement.
Marinescu, a lawyer by profession, said that his experience in the legal field gives him a perspective on the administration of justice and on citizens’ expectations. Among the main objectives announced is the creation of a national agency for the protection of crime victims.
According to the candidate, the institution would develop unified public policies, establish protection measures, and coordinate the provision of assistance to victims. Marinescu criticized the current approach, which he described as fragmented, and argued for the need for a coherent policy applied at the national level.
The hearings of the members of the Luca Niculescu Cabinet began on Monday, when 13 ministers presented their priorities and received favorable endorsements. On Tuesday, Radu Marinescu was the first candidate to be heard, starting at 9:00 a.m. He received a positive endorsement with 78 votes in favor and 47 against.
