Radu Burnete, presidential advisor, stated that to significantly reduce fuel prices in Romania, it is necessary to lower VAT or excise duties. However, he emphasized that this could be problematic due to the budget deficit.
Burnete mentioned that rationing is not a viable option and that capping prices could have negative effects on supply. He highlighted that Romania, being a producer of fuel, has seen a smaller increase in prices compared to other European countries. Burnete suggested that government measures should focus on supporting carriers and farmers to keep prices under control. He also mentioned the importance of using international fuel reserves in the context of geopolitical instability. The government is set to declare a state of crisis in the fuel market, adopting measures such as limiting trade margins and restricting fuel exports.
