The A1 Motorway construction has advanced significantly, reaching a progress of 44%, with the completion of the breakthrough of Tunnel 1 in the Lugoj - Deva direction. The works are being carried out using the Austrian method of high precision, and a TBM installation will be used for the tunnel at Poiana. The director of CNAIR, Cristian Pistol, mentioned that the works continue with excavation, lining, and concreting of the foundation. At Tunnel 2, 445 meters out of 1,985 meters for the straight gallery have already been drilled, and similar progress has been made at the Cut&Cover Tunnel. Over 750 workers and 200 machines are mobilized to meet the completion deadline set for December 2026. The project, valued at 1.82 billion lei, is funded through PNRR and is expected to allow traffic on 360 km of motorway once the section is completed.
