A professor from the University of Life Sciences in Iași has been placed in preventive detention for rape, after a student filed a complaint.

Professor Corneliu Gașpar, 57 years old, from the 'Ion Ionescu de la Brad' University of Life Sciences in Iași, has been placed under preventive arrest on charges of rape, filed by a student. The incident allegedly occurred on July 9, after an exam, when the young woman was called to the professor's office to discuss her grade, during which he is said to have sexually assaulted her without consent.

The university administration has initiated an internal investigation, and the Ethics Committee has heard the student and witnesses, determining that the facts are serious, which led to the professor's dismissal from teaching positions. After a complaint was filed with the police, the professor was detained and subsequently placed under preventive arrest for 30 days, and investigations continue to clarify all circumstances of the case.
