Priest Dănuț Gheorghe Pavel, from the Topoloveni Archpriesthood, has been suspended from serving and exercising his priestly prerogatives after being elected president of the local PSD organization.
The Archdiocese of Argeș and Muscel reacted to the information that emerged in the public space, emphasizing that the Romanian Orthodox Church prohibits the involvement of clergy in partisan political activities, according to the decisions of the Holy Synod no. 1844/2016, 6970/2020, and 1731/1 March 2024.
The priest, who does not have an employment contract with the Archdiocese, did not inform the institution about his candidacy. Following these events, a disciplinary investigation has been initiated to verify the circumstances, and until its completion, the priest will be suspended from serving. The Archdiocese will take measures according to the Church's statute, depending on the conclusions of the investigation.
