Priest Nicu Chiriță, who is under criminal investigation for embezzlement with particularly serious consequences and forgery in writings, has been reinstated in religious services by the Diocese of Alexandria and Teleorman, being assigned to the Crângu Monastery. The criminal case, which concerns acts committed between 2016 and 2022, is being handled by the Prosecutor's Office next to the Teleorman Tribunal and has an estimated damage of over 4.9 million lei.

The investigation revealed that the priest allegedly falsified documents to justify funds received from local and national budgets, which he would have used for personal gain. Although he was under judicial control for eight months, he is currently not under any preventive measure. The diocese initially suspended his activity, but recently decided to allow his return to service, which has generated controversy considering that the criminal case is not resolved.
