Patients with cancer and kidney diseases are fighting not only with their illnesses but also with the deplorable conditions in hospitals. The Brașov County Hospital, with oncology and nephrology departments, operates in a building that is nearly a century old, annually authorized but with seismic risk. Patients complain about the state of the building, with deteriorating walls and poor hygiene conditions, and some refuse to use the showers due to the conditions. Although the authorities are aware of the problems, interventions are rare, and patients feel abandoned. The hospital manager has promised modernization, but doctors and patients' families are skeptical, considering the unfulfilled promises of the past. Most hospitals in Romania are located in old buildings, and in the last 37 years, only two new hospitals have been built.
