Victor Ponta stated, in an interview given to the publication Cotidianul, that he knows what it is like to win and lose elections and that he will remain a friend of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić. Ponta argued that Serbia is and remains a democratic country, in which the vote is respected.
The former prime minister criticized the way political events in Serbia were presented in Romania, claiming that the situation had been described “falsely by propaganda.” In his view, Vučić organized the elections, immediately acknowledged the victory, and congratulated the winners, as a democracy should function.
Ponta said that he was not familiar with the political program of the Students’ Party, the winning formation, but expressed his hope that it would promote reforms and positive changes.
Asked what message he had sent to Vučić, Ponta said that he reminded him that he knows what it is like to win and lose elections. He added that people who truly have “character” do not change their attitude depending on the result of the vote, and reaffirmed: “I remain his friend.”
