A police officer from Maramureș was detained after causing a fatal accident in the town of Făurești on Sunday night. The agent, who was off duty and under the influence of alcohol, got behind the wheel along with two other acquaintances after a party. The SUV he was driving overturned into a ditch, knocked down a concrete fence, and ruptured a gas pipeline, causing a fire. The impact resulted in the death of one passenger, while another was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The 47-year-old police officer escaped with a few bruises and was discharged. After investigations, authorities determined that he was driving and detained him for manslaughter, bodily harm through negligence, and driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages.
