An incident that took place in Ploiești led to the sanctioning of a man with a fine of 2,000 lei, after he called the emergency number 112 to report a taxi driver whom he suspected of being under the influence of alcohol. The call occurred on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, when the man noticed that the taxi driver did not know the desired address and that he was speaking strangely.

The police intervened and, after testing the driver with a breathalyzer, which yielded a negative result, deemed the call unjustified. Representatives of the IPJ Prahova explained that unjustified calls can affect interventions in real emergency cases, which is why the caller was sanctioned according to the law. The dialogue between the man and the police officers was captured in a video, in which he did not understand the reason for the fine.
