Dragos Pîslaru, the interim Minister of Labor, stated that Romania is working intensively on renegotiating the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) to prevent the loss of European funds.
He accused previous governments of delays in implementing the assumed reforms and projects. Pîslaru emphasized the importance of maximizing the absorption of non-reimbursable funds, mentioning that negotiations are ongoing with the European Commission to unlock 4.9 billion euros. Technical discussions with Brussels are underway, and the main objective is to save investments that can be completed by the deadline of August 31, 2026. Some projects will be moved to loans, while others will remain on grants, depending on their status.
Pîslaru highlighted the existing managerial chaos upon taking office and mentioned that the salary reform in the public sector has been postponed, now being necessary to avoid estimated losses of 770 million euros.
