Otokar signed on April 29, 2026, an acquisition agreement for 96.77% of the share capital of Automecanica S.A., valued at approximately 85 million euros, the process being conditioned by local regulatory approvals. This investment marks an important step in the company's European industrial strategy, aiming to develop a national production capacity in the defense sector.
Aykut Özünter, General Director of Otokar, emphasized the long-term commitment towards Romania, contributing to the industrial sovereignty of the country and supporting NATO's defense on the Eastern Flank. The production of COBRA II vehicles has already begun, and the facilities in Mediaș, compliant with NATO standards, will ensure a complete manufacturing cycle. Otokar will implement training programs for Romanian personnel, bringing advanced know-how and technical skills. This investment not only fulfills contractual obligations but also positions Romania as an active player in the NATO industrial ecosystem, opening up export opportunities and strengthening the local defense sector.
