Ludovic Orban, former advisor to Mayor Nicușor Dan, criticized the president's initiative to organize a referendum among magistrates, stating that there is no constitutional and legal basis to compel them to participate. Orban described the move as 'useless' and emphasized that, regardless of the outcome, the consultation will not benefit the justice system, which is, in his opinion, 'seriously ill.' He anticipated that the majority of magistrates might validate the current leadership of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM), which would hinder any necessary reform.

The former prime minister emphasized that, even in the case of a negative vote, the president does not have the legal power to revoke CSM members. In conclusion, Orban stated that he supports a profound reform of justice, but it must be based on the will of society and legislative measures. The president announced that the referendum will have a simple question: whether the CSM acts in the public interest or in the interest of a group within the judicial system.
