Oana Țoiu, Minister of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the low salaries in the MFA, which do not reflect the complexity of diplomatic functions. Net salaries for employees with 15 years of seniority are 6,300 lei, while new starters earn between 3,400 and 4,500 lei. By 2024, cuts in bonuses had affected 40% of staff, generating discontent. Țoiu promised a review of the controversial secondments and emphasized the need for reforms to justify a higher budget allocation, given that the MFA has only 0.08% of GDP.
