Oana Gheorghiu, interim prime minister, presented important clarifications regarding the digital wallet project, rejecting information that she considers manipulations appearing in the public space.

Gheorghiu emphasized that Romania will not pay millions of euros to a German company without a tender, but will take over the source code of the solution developed by the German Government for free. She also assured that all Romanian data will remain in the country, without access for foreigners. In the context of criticisms regarding the use of the German solution, Gheorghiu explained that the digital wallet must be completed by the end of 2026 and that using the German infrastructure will save time and resources.

The Deputy Prime Minister further clarified that physical documents will not be abandoned and that the use of the digital wallet will be optional. In conclusion, she mentioned that the cancellation of the tender on the National Interoperability Platform is not related to the digital wallet and that unnecessary expenses will not be incurred.
