President Nicușor Dan will have a meeting on Monday at the Cotroceni Palace with representatives of OMV Petrom, following the significant increase in fuel prices caused by the conflict in the Middle East. Pump prices have reached alarming values, with gasoline ranging between 8.49 and 8.70 lei, and diesel between 8.97 and 9.15 lei. OMV's director, Alfred Stern, warned of a possible fuel shortage in Europe and criticized political calls for price caps, suggesting that reducing taxes would be a more effective solution.

In this context, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan assured that the government is closely monitoring prices and taking measures to limit the impact on citizens. Among the proposed measures is an emergency ordinance to declare a crisis situation in the fuel market, capping prices, and reducing excise duties. The Ministry of Finance has developed a project to extend state aid for transport operators, with an estimated budget of 652 million lei, to compensate for the increase in diesel prices.
