President Nicușor Dan declared on Monday, at Digi FM, before the meeting at the Cotroceni Palace with the leaders of pro-European parliamentary parties, that "Romanians should have confidence that we are going in the right direction," despite the tensions, as the meeting on Monday is taking place in a civilized manner, after the PSD withdrew support for Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan.
He mentioned that the tensions between the parties in the governing coalition, including UDMR and USR, are increasing, characterizing the situation as "irreconcilable," but sending a positive message to Romanians and emphasizing that he must remain a mediator.
"For months I have been discussing with both sides, UDMR, USR, I have noticed that the tension is increasing. We are in a moment where there is an irreconcilable position. I must be a mediator. The meeting at 10:00 is taking place in a civilized manner, Romanians should have confidence that we are going in the right direction," said the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan.
Does Dan support Bolojan?
According to the president, a message of support for Bolojan in the context of the political crisis "is not constitutional."
"For the moment, I am not in the constitutional position to act. What I can do is to dialogue with everyone, to try to resolve different issues in this way. For now, there is a prime minister, at the moment when, if a discussion about a new prime minister arises, then we will discuss it further. Yes, until that moment we are here," said Dan.
Nicușor Dan convened a meeting with all parties in the coalition to discuss the implementation of major national programs, including PNRR and the SAFE mechanism. The meeting, scheduled for 10:00, comes after the PSD decided to leave the government, and consultations took place in the context of increased tensions within the coalition.
