The NBS has proposed a number of amendments to the austerity bill, including the suspension of party subsidies in years when Romania fails to meet budget deficit targets. It also calls for a 50% cut in lump sums for MPs, which cost 100 million lei annually, and changes to social contribution rates for the unemployed. The NBS suggests raising VAT by one percentage point and postponing the application of the 11% rate for housing supplies. It also calls for the repeal of a paragraph on bonuses for the management of European funds, considering it retroactive and unjustified.
