Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare announced the approval of shifting 2.058 billion lei in healthcare funding by moving funds allocated for the fourth quarter to the third quarter of 2026. The measure is intended to prevent an immediate funding bottleneck for medical services, amid the risk that some payments could face difficulties at the beginning of October.

According to the minister, the amount does not represent an increase in the total expenditure approved for this year, but the advancing of budgetary resources that had already been allocated. The funds will be used to pay invoices for medical services and devices already provided to patients, as well as medicines already dispensed.

Nazare said the intervention is a short-term measure and does not resolve the structural problems affecting healthcare system funding. The minister maintains that healthcare needs greater predictability, stricter spending controls and a clear link between commitments undertaken and available resources.

He warned that any additional funding or budgetary flexibility must be accompanied by reforms, efficiency measures and cost controls so that funding pressures do not recur periodically.
