According to CNPP data, as of July 2025, the total number of recipients of social allowances for pensioners was 892,076, of which 835,389 were in the public system. The average amount of allowance for public system pensioners was 536 lei, with the highest amounts in counties such as Maramureș and Hunedoara. Agricultural pensioners received an average allowance of 353 lei, with the highest beneficiaries in Iasi county. The social allowance is given to people with incomes below 1,281 lei, according to Law 196/2009.
