<p>The Pentecost pilgrimage in Șumuleu-Ciuc, one of the biggest Catholic religious events in Romania, was attended by some 335,000 faithful. They walked to the open-air shrine where they prayed for family and community. The event, which has a tradition going back more than 450 years, is linked to a 1576 history when Roman Catholics resisted the imposition of the Unitarian religion. Although 201 people required medical attention, the atmosphere was marked by moving sermons and prayers for peace and divine help.
