On the occasion of the International Day of Commemoration of the Victims of the Holocaust, the President of the Senate, Mircea Abrudean, highlighted the magnitude of the tragedy, mentioning that approximately 6 million Jews were killed, along with other persecuted groups. He emphasized that this day represents a collective responsibility to leave no room for evil in society.
Abrudean mentioned the legal measures adopted by Romania against extremism, but warned about the increase of hate speech and disinformation in the online environment. He underscored the necessity of practical actions to combat antisemitism and xenophobia, inviting citizens not to ignore discrimination and to promote a culture of respect. The memory of the Holocaust victims must guide us in how we educate our children and interact with each other, affirming that every action counts in preventing the repetition of history.
