Radu Mihaiu claims that some PSD parliamentarians might vote for the Mureșan Government

Radu Mihaiu, USR vice-president and former mayor of Sector 2, estimates that some PSD lawmakers could vote to approve the government led by designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan. He made the statement on Tuesday, September 29, on RFI, as the new executive needs 233 votes to be approved.

Mureșan announced that he had secured approximately 200 votes, while the difference could also be covered by Social Democratic lawmakers. Mihaiu argues that they cannot be directly coerced and that, according to his information, PSD lawmakers are expected to be present in the chamber for the vote.

The USR vice-president justified his position by pointing to the need for political and administrative stability. He said that Romania needs a budget adjustment, the allocation of funds for the emergency system, and preparations for the budget.

Mihaiu stated that PSD and AUR had shown they could change the parliamentary majority, suggesting that some PSD lawmakers might support the government to help it pass the investiture vote and avoid potential risks related to the country’s rating. Later, they could try to rebuild the majority formed in May if they become dissatisfied with the government’s performance.
