Mihai Dimian, the new Minister of Education and Research, announced on Tuesday that solutions are being sought to increase the hourly rates for payment in education, with the aim of implementing this measure in the fall.
He emphasized the importance of an honest discussion about the involvement of teachers in educational activities, mentioning that the public perception of the number of hours worked by teachers is often incorrect. The minister proposed to the education unions a job description for teachers that would include hours worked outside of school hours, to provide a clear picture of the work done.
He also mentioned that the Ministry of Education recently paid 254 million lei for old court rulings, an amount that could have been used to increase the hourly rates by approximately 50%, but differentiated.
Dimian promised that, once the budget is approved, ways to save and supplement funds will be identified in the second half of the year.
"Once we have the budget, we will identify ways in which savings can be made in certain areas, and perhaps supplement in the second half of the year. We will see how we can reach such a solution," explained Mihai Dimian.
