Meta informed via an email that it will lay off approximately 10% of its employees, which is around 7,800 people, as part of an effort to streamline and to compensate for other investments. Notifications began on May 20, and employees were thanked for their contributions. The email details the severance packages, including payment of 16 weeks of salary plus two weeks for each year worked, 18 months of health insurance, and assistance in finding a new job. Additionally, Meta will transfer over 7,000 employees to initiatives in the field of artificial intelligence. The company declined to comment on this decision. Laid-off employees will have access to an Alumni Portal for additional information and resources.
