The Bucharest Court of Appeal issued a final decision on Thursday in the case of Mario Iorgulescu, establishing a sentence of 8 years and 8 months in prison. This follows a retrial of the case, after the High Court of Cassation and Justice ordered it.
The court upheld the 2024 sentence, rejecting the appeals filed by both the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Bucharest Tribunal and the defendant. Iorgulescu was sentenced to 7 years in prison for manslaughter, 2 years for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and 3 years for deprivation of liberty in another case.
After merging the sentences, the judges established a total sentence of 8 years and 8 months, which can no longer be contested. The case has had multiple twists and turns over the last six years, being retried in extraordinary appeals. At this moment, Mario Iorgulescu is still on the run in Italy.
