A 36-year-old person was placed under preventive arrest after allegedly trading 1.7 kilograms of cannabis in Maramureș

A 36-year-old person was placed in pre-trial detention for 30 days after allegedly being caught in the act while trading 1.7 kilograms of cannabis in Maramureș County. The case is being investigated by officers from the Maramureș Organized Crime Combating Service and DIICOT prosecutors from the Maramureș Territorial Office.

The sting operation took place on September 23, 2026, in the area known as Dealul Groșului. According to investigators, the person had allegedly possessed and transported the risk drugs concealed in a utility vehicle.

On the same day, DIICOT prosecutors ordered the person’s detention. On September 24, the judge for rights and freedoms at the Maramureș Tribunal admitted the investigators’ request and ordered pre-trial detention for a period of 30 days.

The investigation is continuing to establish all the circumstances and criminal liability. The authorities state that throughout the entire criminal proceedings, the person benefits from the rights and guarantees provided by the Code of Criminal Procedure, as well as from the presumption of innocence.
