The General Prosecutor's Office has sent to trial a man accused of the rape and murder of a 75-year-old woman, committed on the night of July 25/26, 1999, in a village in Tulcea County. The defendant entered the victim's home, where he used violence to maintain a sexual relationship, and subsequently killed her to prevent alarming the neighbors. The victim was discovered on the morning of July 26, naked and hidden under a bed. The man was apprehended in September 2025, and genetic expertise confirmed his identity by comparing his genetic profile with biological traces from the crime scene. He is accused of qualified murder and is in preventive detention.
