A major outage occurred on the Berceni Main Line, at the intersection of Stupilor and Turnu Măgurele streets, affecting the hot water supply in Sector 4 of Bucharest.
Starting from August 22, approximately 90% of consumers in this sector, meaning nearly 300,000 people, will be without hot water for four days. The incident was caused by a crack in a 60-year-old heating pipe, and the hot water accumulated in the underground galleries complicates the situation.
The authorities, under the leadership of the general mayor Ciprian Ciucu, convened an emergency meeting with representatives of Termoenergetica and ELCEN to find solutions. CET Progresul will be shut down to allow workers to intervene, and CET Sud will be restarted to supply Sectors 2 and 3, thus avoiding a more extensive problem.
Despite these measures, Sector 4 does not have an alternative supply solution, and the interruption is inevitable.
