Bucharest City Hall announces the completion of work to replace 28 kilometers of heating pipes on 67 streets in Bucharest, ahead of the cold season. The modernized pipes supply 244 apartment blocks and 69 buildings, while the work was funded through European funds.

The construction sites have been closed, and road restoration work has been completed. The pipes are due to be formally accepted during this period. The interventions took place in sectors 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, on roads including Calea Griviței, Nicolae Titulescu Boulevard, Banu Manta Boulevard, Ștefan cel Mare Road, Basarabia Boulevard, Giurgiului Road and Luică Street.

The municipality states that nearly 37 additional kilometers of pipes are more than 95% complete and are expected to be finished this autumn. Thus, the announced investments target nearly 65 kilometers of Bucharest’s heating network.

The modernization is considered necessary to reduce breakdowns and interruptions in the supply of hot water and heating. The capital’s network is one of the most extensive centralized heating systems in Europe, but the age of the pipes has repeatedly caused problems. For the work to have an effect during the cold season, the new sections must be formally accepted and integrated into the existing system.
