The Interior Ministry has initiated an emergency ordinance criminalizing mercenary activity for active and reserve military and police officers, considering that their involvement in foreign conflicts without an official mandate could damage Romania's image and generate diplomatic conflicts. The MAI spokesperson emphasized the risks associated with using professional training in uncontrolled conflict environments. The proposal has been criticized by police unions, which claim it limits the right to work.
