The first international auction for the sale of the Liberty Galați steel plant ended without any buyer. Although five investors purchased the specifications and analyzed the offer, none submitted the necessary guarantee to actually participate in the auction.
The main reason is the price considered too high, at approximately 720 million euros. The plant's administrators say that investors are discouraged by the high operating costs, such as energy, gas, and CO₂ certificates, as well as the fact that the facilities are old and consume a lot of energy.
Under these conditions, there is a possibility that the industrial platform will be put up for auction again, but at a reduced price, estimated between 420 and 500 million euros, to attract an investor interested in restarting production.
