The Liberty Galați steelworks has a new liquidation value, estimated at approximately 182 million euros, after it had been valued at 538 million euros in 2025. The decrease is attributed to the sale of certain stocks, the deterioration of some equipment, the prolonged period of inactivity, and the costs required for restarting and modernization.
The new valuation, carried out by Darian, serves as a benchmark for a possible direct sale, but does not automatically establish the starting price. The decision belongs to the creditors, primarily Exim Banca Românească and ANAF, which are jointly owed more than 450 million euros.
Two auctions have already been organized for the sale of the steelworks, both unsuccessfully, with starting prices of 709 million euros and 463 million euros, respectively. The regulations for direct negotiation have been finalized, but the plan must be approved by the creditors.
Approximately 2,000 employees have not received their salaries since May 2026. The concordat administrators maintain that the payment of outstanding amounts will be possible after receipt of the advance resulting from the sale. The court hearing was scheduled for 2 December 2026, but the procedure may be accelerated if the creditors approve the plan.
