The Liberty Galați steel plant, currently under preventive concordat since March 2025, is proposing a new chance for recovery through an asset auction, with a starting price reduced to 444 million euros, representing 70% of the market value. This modification has been included in the restructuring plan submitted by the administrators Euro Insol and CITR to the Galați Tribunal.
The first attempt to sell, organized in March 2026, failed due to the lack of financial guarantees from interested investors. The market value has been reassessed, and the plant's debts amount to nearly 3.4 billion lei, with major creditors such as Exim Banca Românească and ANAF. A decision regarding the new restructuring plan is expected on June 24, 2026, and the auction cannot take place earlier than July.
