The prosecutors from the Prosecutor's Office next to the Bucharest Court of Appeal decided to send a lawyer to trial, suspected of committing the crime of assault, following an incident on July 20, in Victoriei Square, where the protest "National Protest - get out of your house if you care about Romania" was taking place. The lawyer, identified by sources as Mircea Popa, allegedly struck a gendarme while performing his duties. The protest escalated into clashes between demonstrators and law enforcement, and four gendarmes were assaulted. Following the incident, the lawyer was detained for 24 hours, and the case was forwarded to the court with a proposal for preventive arrest. The Prosecutor's Office emphasizes that this stage does not affect the principle of presumption of innocence. Additionally, two individuals were taken in for questioning to clarify the circumstances of the events.
