Former PSD MP Laura Vicol was present on Wednesday at the Bucharest Court of Appeal, at the first hearing in the trial in which Călin Georgescu, Horațiu Potra and 20 other defendants are being tried for actions against the constitutional order. Vicol is the lawyer for Dan Cristian Panță, a former local councillor in Mediaș and one of the people prosecutors consider close to Potra.
The trial did not actually begin, after Călin Georgescu, who did not appear in court, requested through his lawyers that the proceedings be postponed. The request was granted, and the next hearing was scheduled for September 28. Horațiu Potra, several defendants and their lawyers were present in court.
According to the indictment issued by the General Prosecutor’s Office, Dan Cristian Panță allegedly contributed, under the coordination of Horațiu Potra, to financing Călin Georgescu both during the pre-campaign period and during the election campaign.
Laura Vicol was a PSD MP and chairwoman of the Legal Committee of the Chamber of Deputies. She resigned in October 2024, following a Recorder investigation into the Nordis scheme. Subsequently, DIICOT prosecutors accused her of allegedly becoming involved in the company’s criminal activity, whose shareholders also included her husband, Vladimir Ciorbă.
