In Buzău County, in the last two years, only one person has managed to qualify as a private detective, a profession considered useful for relieving police officers of certain tasks. To become a private detective, the candidate must be a graduate of legal studies and pass an exam organized by the Buzău County Police Inspectorate (IPJ). The only certificate issued was obtained by a former police officer with 31 years of experience in Criminal Investigations, who believes that his new career is a continuation of his previous activity. Although he has not yet practiced, he emphasizes that detectives can be used in various fields, from economic investigations to searching for missing persons.
Representatives of the National Union of Police Officers and Contractual Personnel (SNPPC) Buzău believe that private detectives could take over some activities of the police, but current legal regulations limit this. Detectives can conduct legal investigations and can request data from state institutions, but they cannot intervene in ongoing criminal cases. Their activity is regulated by law, and professional secrecy is an essential obligation.
