A police officer from Police Station 5 in Timișoara has been sent to trial for allegedly disclosing confidential information about a residence, with the aim of facilitating a burglary. According to prosecutors, the data allegedly reached a person known for property crimes.
The information was allegedly obtained during an intervention in which the officer participated following a 112 call. The police had been called to help open a safe. Prosecutors claim that the officer allegedly learned details about the layout of the residence, access, the location of the rooms, where the owner slept, the position of the safe, and the presence of significant sums of money.
The alleged acts took place between February 4 and April 10, 2026. The officer is accused of using information not intended for public disclosure or allowing unauthorized persons access to such information. At the time he was sent to trial, he was under house arrest.
The case is part of a broader investigation into burglaries at the homes of doctors, businesspeople, teachers, and politicians from Timișoara and Dumbrăvița. In August 2026, searches were conducted at 16 residences, including the police officer’s home. The estimated damage amounts to approximately one million euros. Among the properties targeted was the home of Marilen Pirtea, rector of the West University of Timișoara and a PNL deputy. The defendant’s guilt will be determined by the court.
