The Iași City Hall will send 100,000 liters of drinking water to the locality of Bălți in the Republic of Moldova, where water has been cut off due to Russian attacks on a hydroelectric power station in Ukraine. Mayor Mihai Chirica responded to the request of the mayor of Bălți, Alexandr Petkov, to provide drinking water to the residents of the city.
The containers for transporting the water will be filled from the ApaVital Iași network, and the mayor is appealing to supermarkets to donate water in large containers. Additionally, five collection points will be opened in Iași for donations.
Chirica emphasized that the Russian invasion represents a cruelty, and this gesture of solidarity is a response to the destruction caused by the attacks. The municipalities of Iași and Bălți have been twinned since January 2023, and the Republic of Moldova has activated the European Union's Civil Protection Mechanism following the Russian attacks.
