The Răstolița hydropower project has stalled due to ongoing litigation in the courts, which has led to significant financial losses for Romania, estimated at hundreds of millions of euros. The state has invested over 200 million euros in this project, and its blockage has meant an irrecoverable loss. Without hydropower, Romania would be in danger of plunging into darkness, especially in the context of an already fragile energy security.

AUR emphasizes the importance of hydropower in avoiding the collapse of the energy system, especially after recent incidents. Criticism is also directed at NGOs such as Bankwatch and the Declic Community, accused of turning environmental protection into an economic dispute, ignoring the impact of rising energy prices, which have increased by nearly 59% in the last year. AUR deputy Valeriu Munteanu stated that Romania's energy independence is threatened by the blockage of essential projects, while other European countries, such as Germany, continue to maintain coal-fired power plants.
