The Archbishop of Tomis, His Eminence Teodosie, will have to vacate the 'Nicolae Pilescu' villa after the expiration of the right of free use in March 2026.

His Eminence Teodosie, Archbishop of Tomis, will be forced to leave the historic villa 'Nicolae Pilescu' in Constanța, after the 50-year period of free use granted by the state expires on March 23, 2026. This villa, built in 1903 and classified as a historic monument, has been owned by the Archdiocese of Tomis based on a decree signed by Nicolae Ceaușescu.

According to the State Secretariat for Religious Affairs, the right of use automatically ceases, without the need for any additional administrative act. The villa, with an eclectic-neoclassical architecture, has served as the official residence for His Eminence Teodosie, but recently unauthorized construction work has taken place, contrary to the legislation regarding historic monuments. After the deadline expires, local authorities will take over the management of the property, and the Archdiocese will have to vacate the villa in the coming weeks.
