Before Călin Georgescu was placed in preventive detention, DIICOT challenged the decision of the Bucharest Tribunal of September 22, by which judicial supervision had been ordered for 60 days. Prosecutors requested that the measure be replaced with preventive detention in a case involving the alleged establishment of an organized criminal group and fraud with particularly serious consequences, in connection with damages estimated at approximately 1.1 million euros.
Previously, Georgescu was picked up by DIICOT prosecutors and taken for searches at his home in Mogoșoaia, after he had allegedly been intercepted in traffic in Otopeni. At the same time, supporters gathered in front of the DIICOT headquarters and protested before the hearings.
