Călin Georgescu and Horațiu Potra will find out today whether the trial against them for attempted coup d'état will officially begin or be suspended. At the High Court of Cassation and Justice, the judges are reviewing the appeal filed by the defendants against the decision to start the trial.

This concerns serious accusations, according to which, on December 8, 2024, Georgescu, Potra, and a group of 20 mercenaries were planning an action to destabilize in Bucharest, on the day of the presidential elections.

The plan was devised at a horse farm in Ciolpani, where the mercenaries were to infiltrate among the participants in a violent protest.

The authorities intervened before they could reach the Capital, confiscating the weapons intended to cause disturbances.

The case was sent to trial after a long period of investigation, and the Bucharest Court of Appeal decided that the trial can begin. Now, the High Court must decide whether the indictment will be sent back to the General Prosecutor's Office or whether the trial will continue.
