The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has confirmed that four Romanian citizens are on the MSC Francesca, which was seized by Iranian authorities over a week ago. They are not part of the crew but are subcontractors for repairs. Initially, the MFA could not confirm the presence of Romanians on board, but later provided information, stating that they are safe and in good health.
The Romanian Embassy in Iran is monitoring the situation and is in contact with local authorities, European counterparts, and partners in Montenegro to provide consular assistance. Around the date of April 22-23, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps detained the MSC Francesca for alleged violations of maritime law. The MFA reminds Romanian citizens in Iran that they can call the Embassy's emergency number for assistance.
