The fire safety systems in the Momaia Tunnel, part of Section 4 Curtea de Argeș–Tigveni on the A1 Sibiu–Pitești Motorway, were tested on Wednesday by representatives of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations and the Argeș Emergency Situations Inspectorate, at CNAIR’s request. The checks were intended to confirm that the equipment was functioning properly and to prepare the response in the event of a fire.
The smoke-extraction ventilation system, the pump room, the hydrant niches and the pressure in the systems were tested. The pedestrian evacuation passages and the routes designated for emergency vehicles and the evacuation of people were also checked.
The authorities also reviewed the response plan and the resources needed for a fire simulation exercise scheduled for November 11. The aim is to establish the course of action and coordinate the participating forces.
The 9.86-kilometre section, which includes the Momaia Tunnel, is scheduled to open to traffic in November. The tunnel is 1,350 metres long and consists of two unidirectional galleries.
