A female bear approximately five years old was shot by authorities during the night after repeatedly returning to the parking lot of a hotel in Poiana Brașov and endangering tourists. The animal’s presence had been reported through a 112 emergency call.
The team that arrived at the scene initially tried to drive the bear toward the forest. However, the animal returned to the parking lot and the area near the hotel, at one point reaching a group of children. Under these circumstances, authorities determined that there was a real danger to people in the area and decided to shoot the animal.
The incident is part of a broader context. Over the past three months, several bears have entered hotel areas in Brașov County. Some were driven away, but those that returned and posed a danger to people were euthanized or shot.
At the beginning of August, a bear nearly nine years old was shot after trying to enter the outbuildings of a hotel complex in Poiana Brașov. At that time, 13 cases of bears being shot or euthanized had been recorded in the city of Brașov over three months. sem
