A 74-year-old man was attacked by a bear in Mureș after the car he was traveling in hit the animal on DN 13A

A 74-year-old man from Harghita County was transported to hospital on Wednesday evening after being attacked by a bear on DN 13A, in the town of Sângeorgiu de Pădure, Mureș County. The animal had entered the roadway and was hit by the car in which the man was traveling as a passenger.

After the impact, the victim got out to check the situation, at which point the bear attacked him and caused injuries to one lower limb. Another passenger, aged 48, intervened and drove the animal away using a car jack. Subsequently, the bear died.

Police officers, medical crews, weapons, explosives and hazardous substances specialists, forensic investigators, and representatives of the local hunting grounds arrived at the scene. The animal's carcass was removed from the roadway and transported to DSVSA Mureș for expert examinations.

Police are continuing their investigations to establish all the circumstances and order the legally required measures.
