A woman was shot dead in Maramureș / A hunter allegedly mistook her for a wild animal

A 45-year-old woman was shot dead on Wednesday evening, at around 9:00 p.m., in the town of Poienile de Sub Munte, Maramureș County. According to the initial information provided by police, she was allegedly mistaken for a wild animal by a man who was taking part in a hunting expedition.

Police officers from the Leordina Rural Police Section 4 were notified of the incident and arrived at the scene, where they found the victim with a gunshot wound to the neck. Due to the injuries sustained, medical personnel pronounced the woman dead.

Following preliminary checks, investigators identified a 35-year-old man suspected of having fired a hunting rifle in the victim’s direction. He is in police custody as investigations continue and the circumstances in which the tragedy occurred are clarified.

A comprehensive investigative team was deployed at the scene. The investigation is continuing to establish the exact circumstances and determine the appropriate legal measures.
