The Braila Public Health Directorate confirmed the death of a 67-year-old man, infected with Listeria monocytogenes, who died following a severe progression of listeriosis. The patient, from the Cazasu commune, was hospitalized at the Braila County Emergency Clinical Hospital, exhibiting symptoms of fever and pneumonia, but his condition deteriorated rapidly, necessitating transfer to intensive care.

Despite treatment, he suffered a cardio-respiratory arrest and was declared dead on January 23, 2026. The Braila Public Health Directorate has initiated an epidemiological investigation to identify the source of the infection, with no other associated cases reported to date. Authorities reminded that Listeria monocytogenes is transmitted through the consumption of contaminated food and issued recommendations for the population, especially for vulnerable groups, regarding food hygiene and avoiding the consumption of risky products.
