The interim Minister of Environment, Diana Buzoianu, requested the National Environmental Guard for an external expertise for the landfill at Vidra.

Diana Buzoianu, the interim Minister of Environment, announced that she has requested the National Environmental Guard to conduct an external expertise on the operator of the landfill at Vidra, the only active waste disposal site for the Capital and Ilfov County, which is approaching maximum capacity.

Buzoianu emphasized that the operator could force the capacity of the landfill to prevent the opening of a new competing site, mentioning that the landfill at Vidra is a controversial subject. According to legislation, local authorities must take measures to open a new site if the current one reaches 75% of its capacity. However, reports from the operator EcoSud indicate an occupancy below 73%. Buzoianu has initiated a control by the Environmental Guard to verify the information regarding the filling level of the landfill, mentioning inconsistencies in the data presented by the operator. The external expertise will determine whether the opening of a new landfill is necessary.
